Nova Fabrica introduced robust and rugged high-vacuum compatible UV-VIS-NIR range collimating lenses featuring three lens sizes (6, 12.7 and 25.4 mm), standard connection interfaces, low outgassing in high vacuum, a two-part body made of stainless steel with precision adjustment mechanism to control the distance between the lens and the optical fiber tip.
The CEO of Nova Fabrica Ltd., Dr Martynas Audronis feels that the new lenses will benefit those customers who have no real viable alternative and are now capitated to often inadequate performance of the commonly available aluminum body lenses.
“The common black-anodized aluminum lens assembly proved to be frustrating just too often to personnel using them in industrial vacuum-based plasma process environments subject to harsh conditions, such as thermal shocks or high long-term operation temperatures” says Dr Martynas Audronis.
Collimating lens enables converting divergent beams of light into a parallel beam and vice versa. These lenses were designed based on extensive field feedback and are optimized for the UV-VIS-NIR range between 200 and 2000 nm.
The new collimating lens allows for precise lens to fiber-tip distance adjustment due to the unique inner part design, which also improves very substantially the locking mechanism and, hence, resistance to vibration induced loss of tightness. The mechanically strong body construction is such that it is almost impossible to inflict damage in case of excessive force applied during installation.
The improved tolerance to thermal shock, long term high temperature performance, low outgassing rate make these lenses compatible with scientific and industrial high vacuum process environments, such as plasma-based PVD, CVD and PLD - sputtering (ion beam, magnetron magnetron sputtering), evaporation (vacuum arc, electron beam), Plasma Enhanced CVD and ALD.
Current experience shows that light collection efficiency is improved by approximately 20-25% over the earlier used common design. Lenses are shipped optimized for maximum light collection efficiency, which eliminates the need for the end-user to optimize them drastically lowering time and effort expenditure to those using them.
